Job Description:

GENERAL DESCRIPTION – PURPOSE OF ROLE:  This position is responsible for demand/production planning and inventory management to meet service level and inventory strategy for assigned items and plants. The individual will be responsible for managing daily production activity and communicating to other stakeholders within Blue Buffalo.

Job Requirements:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop production schedules for assigned plants that meet multiple goals.

- Service levels

- Capacity

- Cost targets

- Inventory targets

  • Execute the supply plan by issuing purchase orders to copackers within the appropriate lead time. Provide a supply forecast to copackers and manage on time delivery by setting guidelines for communication of delivery dates and quantities.
  • Proactively manage copacker activity and attainment to ensure Blue Buffalo’s interests are met and any potential issues are communicated.
  • Track attainment and on time arrival against published schedule and due date.
  • Perform distribution requirements planning on a weekly basis and execute stock transfer when necessary.
  • Monitor and provide reason code for any short shipment. Formulate plan to prevent further shortages whenever possible.
  • Provide long range demand plan to manufacturing to secure appropriate production capacity.
  • Provide shipment trend and estimate to transportation and warehousing to better manage the inventory movement, inbounds and labor management.
  • Conduct regular production status meeting with copackers to ensure on time delivery.
  • Communicate potential short in customer shipments to other cross functional groups.
  • Manage inventory turns to improve service and minimize obsolete inventory.
  • Conduct monthly review meeting with ingredient and packaging buyers to ensure supply.
  • Review forecast with the Sales and forecasting department to ensure all the nuances are understood when making production decisions.
  • Update and distribute KPI’s for assigned items and plants.
  • Participate in quarterly business reviews with copackers.
  • Participate in new product initiatives.
  • Work with finance to evaluate and explain PPV.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum 5 - 7 years in production planning role

Understanding of all Supply Chain functions

Must be able to work in an environment with free-roaming companion pets.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE:

Experience with Consumer goods

APICS Certification

Pet parent preferred
