Division Description:

COMPANY’s Server & Application Engineering Team is responsible for providing frameworks that empower 250+ developers to move faster with less risk across several different business units.  Additionally, the team supports a variety of operational work ranging from administrative requests to mission critical Production issues.  As an engineer on the team, you will be responsible for developing new enhancements to our existing frameworks in addition to actively extending our capabilities with new ideas. 

The position will entail full-stack development on our budding asset management system, custom SDLC tools for ActiveBatch, Puppet manifest/module development, and scripting tools for internal use. In addition to development, you will also closely be working with the team as an escalation point for our operations team and expected to use issues as an inspiration to develop long-term solutions (even better if they are auto-healing!)

As a member of the Server & Application Engineering Team, you will have the opportunity to be exposed to multiple different technologies ranging from the Microsoft stack to exploring the adoption of new technologies such containers and service discovery.  You will also have the opportunity to be one of the first contributors to our new open-source program.

Responsibilities

  • Full-stack development of internal applications such as asset management, self-service portal, and other tooling
  • Scripting contributions to our growing Powershell repositories across various stacks
    • Storage, servers, SQL, Windows, etc.
  • Research and development of new technologies to continue moving the team and Blackstone forward
  • Active Puppet Development
    • Manifest creation and module development
  • Drive the software development lifecycle within the team
    • Documentation and code reviews are a must
  • Act as a point of escalation for our operations team for both outages and troubleshooting
    • Windows/Linux, VMware, storage, servers, IIS, SQL Server, RabbitMQ, Redis, etc.
  • Actively engage with the operations team to understand the next project to automate

 

Job Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Enjoys bringing systems together through thoughtful development/architecture
  • At home in the .NET stack (C#, SQL Server)
    • We use the right tool for the job, but mostly C#
    • Prefer working in Git
  • Comfortable in PowerShell or another scripting language
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills on Windows systems and related technologies
    • Bonus points for Linux
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Prefers working in an agile environment
  • Detail-oriented and excellent organizational skills a must
  • Desire to work in a heterogeneous ecosystem
    • RabbitMQ, MongoDB, Docker, ElasticSearch, SOLR, .NET, etc.
  • Passion for challenging the status quo
